Still weird, though . . . If Google Earth works on other browsers, installing the Firefox plug-in is the solution. Search the web using "google earth plugin reinstall" to reinstall, which took me to "http://www.google.com/earth/plugin/error.html" where there is a message and a link to the reinstall. Please note that the Google Earth plugin is a 32-bit application so you must use the 32-bit versions of Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer; it won't work with 64-bit versions. 64-bit I too had this problem.
