My old hard strap has been sitting on the same door knob for over 2 years. So, I had been using the old strap from my 305 with my 410 until I bought a 910 5 months ago. Not washing the heart rate monitor (HRM) on a consistent basis can cause sweat and salt to build up on the strap. I´m ready to reset the whole thing. Gold tangs were not my fix (nor two new batteries). But from the symptoms, it sounds like upward spiking HR is more likely caused by something different.
